When we let shock or panic or a lust for vengeance guide us, we are a greater danger to ourselves than terrorists ever could be. Any terrorists. With any weapon.

It still amazes me how after seven years, the U.S. media is still suckered by what al-Qaeda leaders have to say or preach. Hardly anyone in the Middle East these days pays close attention to their speeches.

With the election over, I wonder if we can draw down the rhetoric a bit. Let's begin with a definition of terrorism.

In an attempt to separate fact from fiction, I'd like to offer my advice, based on the three years I have spent studying Guantanamo in unprecedented detail.

Many Afghans working for the Afghan security forces are now switching sides and are now defecting to the Taliban. Guess who trained many of them? Blackwater!

There has been virtually nothing on the Liddy-McCain relationship in the major newspapers and broadcast networks -- is Liddy any less a domestic terrorist than Bill Ayers?

The account of the 1910 Los Angeles Times bombing, and the 'Trial of the Century that followed,' plays like a true crime thriller surrounded by important social themes.

If we are going to racially profile Arabs for terrorism, shouldn't we apply the same standard to white people?

One wonders at this point how the various agencies charged with the responsibility of protecting the presidential candidates from violence will respond to this latest tactic from the McCain campaign.

The surviving Republican members of Congress will do their best to make Obama's life miserable.
Diane Francis, 11.06.2008
The United States cannot afford to take any risks. President Obama, and his family, must live in a bubble all their days in office. Handshaking, baby-kissing and plunging into crowds must be forbidden.

Think about it -- when the government announced it was setting up this list, did anyone picture such a thing? Might as well just put the whole population on the list and save on administrative expenses.

I don't understand why people think that the US needs to spread Democracy. Yeah, we think it is the best form of government, but that doesn't mean everyone does. Are we so arrogant that we presume to know what is best for the entire planet?
Yeah, I guess we are and we do.
I think lots of folks expect Obama to play the same game as our past recent presidents, and are just hoping that he plays it better. Another possibility is that Barak could do some outside the box type of thinking. Something new. Something completely different. What forms could that take?
Perhaps something like using and empowering the United Nations to actually gaining global cooperation in addressing huge problems like climate change, and allocation of the world's natural resources. Our commons is being polluted not just by ourselves, but other nations, especially China. We act like the solution to our energy problems, both type and amount, is a U.S. matter.
Obama has talked about regaining the respect of the world. Perhaps that will translate in leading the world, and taking on the big problems with an all hands on deck (all nations of the world) approach, to actually solve them.
President OBAMA has so much on his shoulders, but I know he is the man to turn this country around. He is brilliant. When was the last time we had a brilliant man in office. A man for the people and the country. He has come from where most of us have, and worked his self to this point. Every president we have had before OBAMA has been rich billionaires, how can they know where we come from and want to go. We all deserve a piece of the american dream and OBAMA can help us get there. So give the man a chance and let him show you what he can do. GOD knows we need him.
Obama with the world on his shoulders -- this is too much responsibility for one man. PRAY for the President of the United States of America.
Amen!
My god I can hardly stand the giddy euphoria. and the comment "He is trying to adopt a transformative style of leadership that encourages participation, and burden-sharing --" is just plain silly and shows how completely ignorant this writer is of exactly who Obama is appointing to key posts.Inclding a Clinton, Clintonistas and political hacks: Eric Holder, Hillary Clinton, Tom Daschle, John Brennan, Mona Stuphen, Dick Gephardt, David Bonior, Laura Tyson, Bill Richardson, jane Garvey, ................
