While bad risk management in financial markets is capturing our attention right now, the problem goes much deeper. Faulty intelligence overestimated the risk from WMD's in Iraq, and underestimated the challenges our military would face from the insurgents. In fact, when it comes to risk assessment, economic or otherwise, it is now quite impossible to trust the judgments of our leaders. You can't assess risk if your mind is closed. Now how does this all map onto Obama/Biden versus McCain/Palin?

Conservatives are scared of a progressive majority. And they're going to lie, cheat and steal to prevent it from happening. But they can only be successful if we let them.

Close to 100 million Americans either received mailers last week, or will be receiving them next week. It is these mailers that will put the last nail...
Robert Naiman, 10.12.2008
One obstacle seems to be that our politicians have painted our country into a rhetorical corner through years of demonizing the Taliban.
Kerry Trueman, 10.12.2008
While rivers and lakes all over the world are simply vanishing into the ether, something really insidious is bubbling up from the Arctic seabed.

It is no hidden fact that Sarah Palin's husband, Todd, twice registered as a member of the Alaska Independence party, a fierce states' rights group that favors Alaska's secession from the US.
Bob Shrum, 10.10.2008
The McCain campaign crossed the line today, from negative character attacks to the kind of character assassination that plays to the basest impulses and incites the most dangerous reaction.
Arianna Huffington, 10.06.2008
McCain and his hatchet mom VP nominee are desperately trying to expose the "real" Obama to the people of America; but what they are really exposing is how morally corrupt McCain has become. And how complete has been his transformation from a noble reformer into an ignoble hack, willing to abandon his most deeply held values in his lust for the presidency. Read More
The Winner of Debate II? "That One" McCain twice laid out the criteria for how the American people should judge the candidates: In tough times, we need someone with a steady hand on the tiller. By that measure, Obama was the clear winner. He was centered where McCain was scattered. Forceful where McCain was forced. Presidential where McCain was petulant. Read More

At the end of the debate, Brokaw asked McCain to get out of the way of his Teleprompter. He might as well have been speaking on behalf of the future: Senator McCain can you please get out of the way so we can get on with it?
Jeffrey Feldman, 10.07.2008
One wonders at this point how the various agencies charged with the responsibility of protecting the presidential candidates from violence will respond to this latest tactic from the McCain campaign.
Greg Mitchell, 10.07.2008
This was supposed to be the "domestic policy" debate. Yet there we were once again talking about raids on Pakistan and defending Israel. Brokaw and the organizers let down the American public.
Erik Ose, 10.06.2008
Palin is in the driver's seat and plans to stay there. Her take-no-prisoners nasty streak and extreme right wing views have found kindred spirits now that she's fully staffed up with veterans of Bush.
Robert Shrum, 10.07.2008
If the question of the first debate was whether Obama would pass the threshold on national security (he did), the reality of this debate is that McCain didn't pass the threshold on the economy.
Daniel Okrent, 10.08.2008
Everyone's fretting that the dreaded Bradley Effect will turn up in this election. But there's another shoe to drop on this issue -- and it may change the electoral map for years to come.
Diane Tucker, 10.09.2008
"Everyone I talk to wants change but on base you can't say certain things. At a bar or a party, everyone tells me they're voting for Obama... My military friends are tired of being lied to."
Amb. Marc Ginsberg, 10.08.2008
I believe now is the time for Obama to consider a bolder and more historic approach to the financial crisis by presenting to middle income Americans a step-by-step "big think" FDR-style New Deal program.

Rollins is probably right but ONLY if we ALL get out and VOTE! No Voter Left Behind! To hell with meetings or work or taking grandma to the dentist or the kids to soccer practice. Drop all of it and get out to VOTE!
Has anyone noticed the shrinking daily tracking poll? 11 points has dropped down to 8 because the narrative on the media has been about whether Obama is a terrorist . He is playing defensive yet he could easily play tactical offensive. Why should we not know about Alaska independent party or the anti-defamation league McCain was a member? at least let them defend some allegations as well. By Mon/Tuesday, the poll would shrink to 5 points, maybe Obama camp will then see what is going on. Negative attacks including lies that look ridiculous WORKS! Period
The only Rollins whose opinion I respect is Henry.
Rollins uses words like landslide to encourage Dems to relax and not bother voting.
Meanwhile, the Republican machine rams home another stolen election.
No way, no how, no McCain.
Rollins just launched Huckabee's campaign for 2012! He's just making sure McCain looses!
