As follow-up to my last installment on some of the more notable domestic films of this decade, I should clarify the distinction between the generic term "the best movies so (or by) far" and the branded concept of "best movies so (or by) Farr."

Last week a mix of water and sanitation experts gathered for World Water Week in Stockholm, Sweden to mull over the world's biggest public health crisis. The problem is that not enough people paid attention.

The first ominous sign, according to an associate, came at a meeting of the economics department this morning, when Mr. Krugman showed up with a coffee mug reading, "No. 1 Economist."

I love the way Michael Keaton plays Bruce Wayne. We usually see him as a socialite, a playboy, and I suppose you could say he is here, too, but it's a loose, complex take on Wayne. Still, the plot keeps fraying.

The methods these well-intentioned actors have employed seem to be of a hurrying design that take the air out of the balloon of solidarity and play right into the hands of the AMPTP.

Joel Schumacher's Batman & Robin pulls off a neat trick: it turns Batman into a joke without being funny at all.

If the studios think we're all going to happily replace our library of movies and TV shows on DVD with Blu-Ray, they are in for a rude awakening.

To be fair, the architecture and landscape of the region was gorgeous. But the natural beauty was marred by thumping house music and a depressing deficit of fabulousness.

Where else could a young Iraqi exile end up appearing with George Clooney in a Hollywood movie -- and then get a chance to return to his native land to serve as official hangman?

The characters in Burn After Reading are short on both brains and good intentions, and the film offers them no sympathy or redemption.

Whatever movie Richard Widmark was in, he projected a unique quality, an innocent smirk that could spell death, either for him or someone else.

and I still say Brad got Jolie to vote for Obama! Way to go Brad!
Like she should have had to think about it.
all of this is great to read. people in the entertainment world being "energized' to reacting in this way. for 2 years, now, i saw NOTHING but the "image" of obama standing in the front of the White House. so, for me it was exciting, for sure but just as much it was "i told you so."
the same golden electric current (that this IS right) struck all of these people and then some. it reached around the world, electrifying EVERYONE who opposed the ways of our government for 8 years and more. obama's win, if you look at it from that viewpoint - a golden current of electricity that EMPOWERED everyone who had a thinking heart. that is why so many shed uncontrollable tears. that is why those tears symbolically "wash away" the old (the bush cronies and all the toxic effect they had on not only the usa - but the world at large) and bring on the new. our new president will have a helluva difficult job. but our tears are testimony that we trust that he WILL surround himself with brilliance, rather than thieves and greed-mongers. those tears are our personal, individual, expression of trust that he will prioritize the healing from the bottom up. the repressed, the forgotten and the countless disenfranchised... all of us see his light and will follow to be "part of the healing." thank you president obama for YOU being YOU. ~d. michele vicari, northern virginia.
nicely said.
